Self-Taught Skills
- HTML - I taught myself HTML from experience and online tutorials. I designed my fathers first web site from the ground up. Learning HTML was an easy task. I did not take me very long to make fairly complex websites. I later learned CSS in one of my courses. Now I am proficient to make almost any kind of informational web site. Here is a link to the online turtorials I used W3Schools.
- Forms - I learned forms on my own with the use of Dreamweaver. I just used the point and click menus to do. Upon looking at the code and making my form customized, I learned a great deal about forms and what other things I could do with them. While doing this I also learned how to submit form data to emails. I used a third party company to send the form data to my email addresses.
- SQL - I learned SQL on my own by using Access. Access has a nice graphic interface to building queries. Once the graphic query is build, it allows you too see the actual SQL. Once I started manipulating the SQL queries I gained a great knowledge base. I also had a small help from a group project where I designed a small database.
- Car Alarms - Car alarms are very difficult to install. I learned how to install these systems using the instructional manual. The first alarm I installed was on my own car. I made many mistakes, but I kept trying. Now I have installed probably 40 alarms, and I can do them without the manual. Once I learned the color code, the rest was history. You can find instructions online at Directed Electronics, Inc.
- PHP - I learned minimal skills with PHP. I leanred then when I moved from using a third party vendor to send me form data through email. I wrote one small .php file that grabbed data out of a form, and then send the data using SENDMAIL on a UNIX box. I have much to learn about PHP and I am actively working with at my new job.
- Office - Office was progressively learned ability. I had Office on my computer and over the years in high school and college I found out many more tasks I could compete automatically. I did not have any help with Office. I learned how to do everything myself. I am still learning Office to this day. The easiest way for me to learn about Office is to teach people.
